The Department of Business Administration and Management of the University of Western Macedonia's School of Economics has approved the appointment of Professor-Academician Konstantinos Zopounidis as a Honorary Doctor. The University of Western Macedonia is the 8th university in the country in terms of number of students and has 28 departments. The School of Economics consists of 9 departments in three cities of Western Macedonia, Grevena, Kastoria, Kozani.
Professor Zopounidis is a Member of two Academies, the Royal European Academy of Doctors (with nine of its members hold a Nobel Price on Economics); Honorary Doctor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; holder of the Edgeworth-Pareto Award, the highest distinction that the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making awards to researchers or practitioners. He also holds major honors from the Hellenic Society for Operational Research (gold medal); Audencia Business School; Ecole Superieure de Paris; MAICH; the Hellenic Mathematical Society; while in 2016, the Technical University of Crete gave him its award of excellence for his over career and contribution to science. He has also received a number of awards for the implementation of his scientific work to business and society by the Chambers of commerce of Heraklion, of Piraeus and of Chania and the Cooperative Bank of Chania.
During his long career, he successfully supervised a large number of doctoral theses, many of which led to appointments as university professors as well as to managerial positions in Organizations and Businesses. His enormous academic work is rated with at Google Scholar with 15421 hetero-references, h-index 68 and in the 1% of the world's most active scientific authors.
