«Responsible Leadership» a new DBA at Audencia

Audencia welcomed the first cohort of the DBA in Responsible Leadership in Paris in December 2019. The diversity of the profiles of the DBA participants on the 3-year programme is impressive with executives from USA, France, Lebanon, Libya and Switzerland joining the programme.

Originating from different countries and sectors, the DBA participants have experience of different business functions and industries and proven managerial experience. This is a key factor to promote valuable experience-sharing in the DBA group and to enable close interaction between participants and faculty members. Courses on research methodology and business and management research themes prepare participants to develop an initial research proposal during the first year of the programme which will be approved by the DBA Research Committee before progressing to the thesis development stage. The courses also support DBA candidates in developing their doctoral thesis and in choosing the right career evolution following their DBA studies.

DBA participants become part of the Audencia research community and are encouraged to attend online research seminars, to be part of the research life of the school and to network with other management researchers. During the second part of the programme participants focus on conducting their research and writing their DBA thesis. The DBA thesis requires participants to investigate an organizational issue and to develop a research study which contributes to research and practice in the business and management field by generating new knowledge. DBA participants develop a thesis that investigates an important business problem that is of strategic importance to their own organization, industry or market. Participants frame the topic of their research under the guidance and advice of their Audencia supervisors. Supervisors are mentors and primary sources of direction and support for the research.

DBA participants often aim to fast-track their management career through achieving a doctorate, gaining in-depth experience and knowledge and enhanced leadership reputation through conducting a large-scale research project within their organizations or sectors. Alternatively, DBA candidates often seek to become consultant experts in a particular business and management domain through the completion of their DBA studies. DBA candidates may also consider changing career direction towards an academic position in the longer term.
