Aspen Institute's Ideas Worth Teaching Award for an Audencia course

Sandrine Stervinou, Associate professor at Audencia has received the 2017 Ideas Worth Teaching Award from the Aspen Institute, for her  course Alternative Economic Models… after a tough selection process!

This year, the Aspen Institute received a record number of nominations from business schools all around the world. From this highly competitive pool, they selected twenty winning courses, amongst which was Sandrine Stervinou course about Alternative Economic Models. Audencia is the only French school honoured, and this course is the only European one amongst the nominees. This course opened in 2014 and it is based on different lectures that put shed light on the economy, the social and solidarity economy, social entrepreneurship, urban agriculture, local currencies and the collaborative economy. Following this cycle of lectures, students are invited to work in small groups on a subject they have chosen, and related to one or more of the themes. During the various sessions, students must present their subject, then lead a debate about it, and finally create a video in which they expose their own point of view about the subject. To achieve this final production, they have to collect various information and must carry out an interview with a local personality they have identified as an interesting player, in relation to their subject. A more detailed written report file is also requested.

This course was designed by Sandrine Stervinou, with the support of Céline Louche, Professor at Audencia, Laura Nirello, Cécile Renault and Claire-Isabelle Roquebert, Ph.D. student at Audencia.

The idea of the Worth Teaching Awards is to celebrate exceptional courses that prepare future business leaders to tackle society’s largest challenges and create a more inclusive – and just – version of capitalism. This course about Alternative Economic Models addresses the Aspen award goal, in both its content and pedagogy, especially “to prompt students to think more expansively about their role in firms and in markets – and to think more creatively about how to align business activities with the long-term health of society”.
